At Charter Oak Communities, we believe a strong community is built on connection, knowledge, and care for one another. That’s why our Resident Service Coordinators, in partnership with Family Centers, are hosting a variety of upcoming workshops, clinics, and celebrations designed to help residents thrive.

What’s Happening This Season

Residents can look forward to several events and workshops running through the end of the year across Charter Oak properties, including:

  • Financial Literacy Workshops: Gain valuable knowledge about budgeting, saving, managing debt, and planning for the future. These sessions help residents feel more confident making financial decisions that strengthen long-term stability.
  • Nutrition Workshops: Learn how to make healthier food choices and simple, affordable recipes that improve overall well-being.
  • Medicare Enrollment Presentations: Guest speaker Vladimir Reynos joins residents to explain the differences in medical plans and help identify options that maximize benefits and lower premiums.
  • Vaccine Clinics: Convenient on-site vaccination opportunities help protect residents’ health throughout the year.
  • Final Expense & End-of-Life Planning Workshops: These important sessions offer guidance on topics like healthcare directives, wills, and managing final expenses, helping residents and families feel prepared and at ease.
  • Holiday Parties: A festive time to celebrate together, enjoy food and entertainment, and strengthen social bonds with neighbors and friends.

Workshops take place at Charter Oak Communities properties on various dates through the end of the year. While registration isn’t required, sign-up sheets are available to help coordinators plan for attendance.

Why These Events Matter

These programs share information but, more importantly, bring people together and make a real difference in residents’ lives.

  1. Foster Social Connections: Holiday parties and recurring gatherings reduce isolation and bring residents together in a welcoming, supportive environment.
  2. Promote Learning and Empowerment: Financial literacy and nutrition workshops provide residents with practical tools to make informed choices about money, health, and wellness, building confidence and independence.
  3. Encourage Open Dialogue on Difficult Topics: End-of-life and final expense workshops create a safe, compassionate space to discuss sensitive subjects like healthcare planning, wills, and grief.
  4. Build Trust Between Residents and Program Providers: By offering consistent, meaningful programming, Charter Oak Communities and Family Centers demonstrate a shared investment in residents’ well-being, not just their housing.
  5. Support Physical, Emotional, and Financial Wellness: Each type of event supports a different area of wellness—emotional, physical, financial, or social—helping residents lead healthier, more resilient lives.

Together, these initiatives create a well-rounded approach to community engagement, ensuring residents feel supported and connected.

Resident Involvement and Volunteer Opportunities

Residents play a vital role in making these events possible. Volunteering not only enhances the experience for everyone but builds leadership skills and fosters inclusivity.

Here are a few ways to get involved:

  • End-of-Life Workshops: Assist with setup, welcome guests, share personal experiences, or co-facilitate discussions if you have professional knowledge in healthcare or social work.
  • Nutrition Workshops: Help organize materials, lead cooking demonstrations, or share healthy cultural recipes. Support community garden activities if available.
  • Holiday Parties: Join the planning committee, decorate shared spaces, provide entertainment, or help greet guests and serve refreshments.
  • Financial Literacy Workshops: Share budgeting success stories, help translate for bilingual attendees, or promote events around your property.

These volunteer opportunities help residents gain confidence, develop leadership skills, and feel a stronger sense of ownership in their community.
