When groups of people unite for the common good, they can transform every aspect of society—from housing and food security to education and health. It’s happening now, part of a growing movement of connecting local governments, businesses, nonprofits, and citizens, and it’s making a lasting difference in the places we call home.Dovetail Social Innovation Platform is the incubator for interconnected communities. We’re working with communities at the local level and developing tools to make the movement scalable nationwide. We’re also working on an integrated media campaign to promote and popularize this growing movement—so more people can experience positive change right in their own neighborhoods. Fairgate Farm is a volunteer-powered, urban agricultural program that has become the ‘heart’ of the West Side neighborhood. Fairgate grows thousands of pounds of fruit and vegetables annually, holds cooking classes and food-themed festivals, hosts nutritional education events, and encourages everyone in the community to come “get their hands dirty” at the farm. Fairgate Farm welcomes school groups, visitors and volunteers from organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, local corporations and anyone interested in helping out, learning and having fun throughout the planting, growing and harvest seasons. Volunteers are welcome to enjoy the organic produce at home. What’s left is shared via regular deliveries to local hunger relief organizations such as the New Covenant Center, food banks and shelters for the homeless.
