At Charter Oak Communities, we believe that strong neighborhoods are built on connection. Knowing the people who live around you makes daily life more enjoyable and helps create a safer, friendlier, and more supportive place to call home.

Whether you’ve just moved in or have lived in your community for years, there are many ways to strengthen your neighborhood ties and make lasting connections.

Participate in Community Events

Charter Oak Communities hosts a variety of events, from barbecues and cultural celebrations to workshops and holiday gatherings, that bring neighbors together in fun, relaxed settings. Attending these events is one of the easiest ways to meet people, share experiences, and discover what makes your community unique.

If there’s an event you’d love to see, talk with your Resident Service Coordinator about planning one. Many of our most popular programs started with resident ideas!

Volunteer or Join a Resident Group

Getting involved is one of the best ways to make an impact while connecting with others. Volunteer at community events, offer to help with setup or cleanup, or join a group like a Resident Council, Youth Council, or Cultural Advisory Committee.

These opportunities not only help improve your neighborhood but also allow you to share your skills, meet new people, and have a voice in shaping the community.

Create Everyday Moments of Connection

Community grows through simple, shared experiences. Organize a shared garden project, host a potluck, or set up a small book or clothing swap in your building.

A casual coffee chat or offering to help a neighbor carry groceries can create trust and goodwill that ripple throughout the community.

Use Your Voice and Listen to Others

A connected neighborhood thrives on communication. Attend resident meetings or open forums to share ideas, learn about new programs, and hear different perspectives.

If you need help joining in, whether due to language, schedule, or mobility, your RSC can provide guidance to make participation easier for everyone.

Celebrate Diversity

COC reflects Stamford’s diversity, bringing together residents of all cultures, languages, and experiences. Attend cultural events, try new cuisines, or simply ask your neighbors to share their traditions.

When we appreciate what makes each of us unique, we strengthen the unity that connects us all.

Belonging Starts with You

Building community isn’t about big gestures, but rather small actions that show care, respect, and openness. Every smile, shared meal, and helping hand contributes to a neighborhood where everyone feels at home.

At Charter Oak Communities, those everyday connections are what turn residents into neighbors and neighbors into friends.
